Week Of Giving Thanks
picture via tumblr.
During the holiday season, it’s easy to get caught up in wanting EVERYTHING and obsessing over how much you get. But it’s so important to remember that it’s not about what you get, it’s about what you give. Even if you’re surrounded by people who seem to have it all, so what?
I know we might blog about and all sorts of material stuff, but in the end that’s not going to matter. So don’t worry about getting the new Kate Spade bag or a Michael Kors watch. Focus on what you do have, because to someone else, that is all they have ever wanted. And if you ever find yourself complaining about not getting a new iPhone or that new pair of boots, just think about the people who don’t have enough money to pay for clean water, or food, or a place to live.
These are things we take for granted, and yet we are so blessed to have them. And think about the fact $100 could provide a starving family with food for months, or the fact that, in Uganda, a child can go to school for one term for anywhere between $10 and $50. Is a bag really more important than that? If everyone shared what they had with the less fortunate, without holding back, then there would be no more poverty.
Anyways, no matter how much we get, we’ll always want more. So if everyone realized that fulfillment doesn’t and will never come from material possessions, then maybe we wouldn’t get so caught up on everything we want instead of everything we have. I’m guilty of everything I’ve said in this paragraph, and it can be difficult, I know. But just try and remember that the holiday season is about giving and not getting.

Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received.
Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling.
Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse.
